Project idea title Improvement of the infrastructure to minimize pollution in the tourist areas
Specific problem to be addressed Regional Council of Durres covers a seacost territiory right in the western part of Albania, including the most ancients cities of the area, that is Durres and Kruja, with a huge cultural heritage.
Main project activities planned All the area is a touristic one and its population is tripled during the touristic seasons. The Couhcil has implemented several projects in the area in order to improve the quality of service, environment, sand, water, etc. The improve of infrastructure is considered as a tool to regenerate the environment. Rehabilitation of the cultural heritage assets is another specific objective of the Council.
Expected outputs and results Improvement of sand and water hyigene in tourists areas of Durres. Icrease the quality of beaches, protection of naural resources, increasing income for theire maintance.
State you area of expertise/ interest Regional Council of Durres in partnership with central and local authorities of the countries of the region namely; Croatia, Italy, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Slovenia, Serbia during the last years implemented STAR project (Statistical Networks in Tourism Sector of Adriatic Regions) and “Zero Waste” (Zero waste Adritic net for events and festivals). In General terms the main objective of STAR project has to do with the improvement of data collection system in tourism sector in Adriatic region and harmonization of tourist information enabling at the same time provision of a better positioning of the tourism offer, improvement of marketing strategies to increase the profit of the business sector and services improvement in tourist sites of Adriatik Region. The overall objectives of Zero Waste were: To create a permanent ICT application as a tool to exchange expertise and promote accessibility to information and communication services; Strengthen the sustainable development capacity of the Adriatic area through the agreed Zero Waste strategy; Lower the negative impact of events and festivals on local resources by converting this impact into an opportunity of growth for the local communities; Promote a tourist economy where conservation, recycling and recovery are key words of a new cultural approach by developing integrated and specialized tourist packages; Encourage and promote good and neighboring relations and a harmonious sustainable development by matching more and less experienced Adriatic areas.
