Project idea title Development of integrated strategy for climate change and pilot testing of urban “heat island” mitigation through green
Specific problem to be addressed Urban heat islands increase demand for energy consumption during the summer when temperatures rise. As a result of increased energy consumption, there is an increase in air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. This policy focuses on lowering greenhouse emissions, which contributes to lowering the heat island effect.
Main project activities planned The project activities will focus on: - Analyses and development of integrated climate change strategy for partner cities; - Development of action plans with specific measures to implement the climate change strategy; - Selection of urban areas to pilot innovative solutions for climate change risks prevention; - Design and implementation of “green islands” with sustainable urban solutions to cope with climate change risks and urban “heat islands”; - Disseminating the results among partners, partners networks meetings and trainings.
Expected outputs and results Increase the level of use of innovative technologies regarding climate change and overall resource management efficiency, including energy efficiency; Joint development of integrated strategies and tools to reduce the use of resources, enhancing their efficiency and decoupling economic growth from resources consumption; Joint planning, design and pilot projects’ implementation for promotion of innovative technologies improving environmental protection and resource efficiency.
