Project idea title Reducing energy use through solar energy introduction for domestic tourism development in tourist areas of Jonian Coast of Albania
Specific problem to be addressed This project’s aim and objective is to assess the feasibility to use a water heater’s and photovoltaic system for drinking water supply and lightning in the tourist area of “Jonian Coast” of Southern Albania. This project makes extensive use of existing drinking water supply infrastructure. Through this project, the NGO aims to implement in Southern Albania the first water-heaters and photovoltaic system, influence the improvement of the energy crisis in Albania, decrease the pollution through the introduction of a new energy source, supply potable and irrigation water to rural areas, and promote agricultural business in Albania, strongly related to poverty issues.
Main project activities planned 1. Identification of settlements in selected tourist areas and Introductory-meeting with stakeholders; 2. Promoting solar energy introduction and capacity building; 3. Identification of demonstration areas and selecting pilot settlements; 4. Purchasing solar water heaters panels; 5. Purchasing solar photovoltaic PV panels; 6. Installing the new provided equipments on the selected families; 7. Training and know-how demand-driven instruction of the management staff and stakeholders; 8. Office costs; 9. Publications and photo-filming.
Expected outputs and results This project’s aim and objective is to assess the feasibility to use a water heater’s and photovoltaic system for drinking water supply and lightning in the tourist area of “Valbona” NP, Northern Albania. This project makes extensive use of existing drinking water supply infrastructure. Through this project, the NGO aims to implement in Northern Albania the first water-heaters and photovoltaic system, influence the improvement of the energy crisis in Albania, decrease the pollution through the introduction of a new energy source, supply potable and irrigation water to rural areas, and promote agricultural business in Albania, strongly related to poverty issues.
State you area of expertise/ interest Solar heating systems are generally composed of solar thermal collectors, a fluid system to move the heat from the collector to its point of usage, and a reservoir or tank for heat storage and subsequent use. In many climates, a solar heating system can provide a very high percentage (50 to 75%) of domestic hot water energy. In Albania as a Mediterranean and sunny (averagely with 260 sunny days a year) the last decade the solar energy system has already been introduced to substitute the electricity power and also fossil energy sources to abate the carbon emissions and improve the environment conditions and livelihoods.
