Municipality of Paggaio is a municipality of the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. It resulted from the combination of pre-existing municipalities in the area, Paggaio, Eleftheres, Orfanos, Piereon and Eleftheroupolis. The area of the municipality is 698.01 square kilometers and the municipality a population of 32.085 inhabitants according to the census of 2011. The municipality office is in Eleftheroupolis. Municipality of Paggaio holds the central and the most wooded part of the gold-bearing Paggaio mountain, known since antiquity, from where it got its name.
